On May 8, 2025, at 12:07 p.m., with the entire world watching, the Vatican made its call. The first American Pope was chosen.

And at 1:23 p.m., Popeyes had the idea to hijack the announcement by posting two words from their X account.

In an instant, Popeyes Fried Chicken became among the internet’s most talked-about topics during this global moment.
